Clean sweep for Gades

Bermuda's rugby season got off to a flying start on Sunday with the traditional Sandys Boat Club tournament at Malabar where defending champions Renegades had much to prove with Police and Teachers fielding much improved squads.

But Gades quickly demonstrated their desire to continue last year's stranglehold on the league by again winning the event, triumphing in all three of their matches.

Police and Teachers ended all square with identical records while Mariners were left with much to think about after losing all three of their contests.

Meanwhile, a ladies tournament saw Teachers emerge victorious.

This Sunday sees the start of league play with Mariners taking on Police and Renegades meeting Teachers in the Presidents Cup. Both games are at Malabar, the first at 1.30 p.m.
