Clearwater are the undisputed kings of middle school football.

Having completed the league season unbeaten with five wins and a draw to finish tied with Saltus at the top, Clearwater went one better and won the Knockout Cup outright earlier this month courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over Whitney Institute.

The East End school advanced to the knockout quarter-finals without having to kick a ball as Warwick Academy defaulted the match and then hammered Sandys Middle School in the semi finals 5-0 before edging Whitney 2-1 on a brace from the boot of Aaron Nelson.

Whitney, coached by Dandy Town coach Devarr Boyles, scored a consolation from the penalty spot.

"Both teams played excellent football and were a credit to their coaches and their schools. But Clearwater's discipline and ability to absorb pressure paid off. Our boys maintained their structure and discipline and worked very hard to be successful," commented Clearwater coach Wayne Henry.

Henry is also coach of First Division leaders St.David's and son of former Trinidad international defender and coach Ken Henry.

In league action, Clearwater swept aside the likes of Sandy's (7-1), Whitney Institute (5-3) and Warwick Academy (5-0) and edged Dellwood (1-0) and Mount St.Agnes (1-0) before being held to a 1-1 stalemate against Saltus.

Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) later declared Clearwater and Saltus joint champions of the Middle School Football League after they finished the campaign tied on points.

According to Henry, goal difference doesn't apply in middle school football.

For their fine efforts, Clearwater's victorious squad received high praise from proud principal Derek Tully.

He said: "This game was an excellent advertisement for our middle schools. Our children at the middle level, both boys and girls, have thoroughly enjoyed their soccer this season and we are all looking forward to the East v West game at National Stadium this week (tonight)."

Following their knockout win over Whitney, Henry's charges dedicated the achievement to Tully.

"Tully has supported us from the beginning to the end," Henry added.

History will be made tonight at the National Sports Centre when the annual Bermuda School Sports Federation All-Star matches will feature senior schoolgirl teams for the first time.

At 4 p.m. boys primary school action takes centre stage to be closely followed by the boys middle school clash.

All-Star action then switches to Bernard Park tomorrow where primary, middle and senior school netball will be on tap.
