Club chief clears up trial confusion
Livingston chairman Dominic Keane has cleared up the confusion surrounding Stephen Astwood's and John Barry Nusum's trip to Scotland.
There had been conflicting stories about how the deal came about, with Nusum supposed to have gone to Rangers and not Livingston according to the Glasgow club's officials.
Keane said there had been an approach but Nusum had never intended going to Ibrox.
"They were recommended by (Bermuda's national coach) Mark Trott. I spoke to him about six weeks ago, well before Christmas," he said. "At that point we were talking about John and he said I have another lad who had been over before and I said why not bring the two of them across.
"There was talk at the very last minute, I think through a particular agent, that John might go to Rangers but that had never been mentioned to me. I have spoken to Alex McLeish (Rangers' manager) and he was more than happy that the boys came here and I think that was the right thing for them.
"I think Stephen was always coming here but I think at the last minute there was a possibility of John going to Rangers - I think it was great credit to him that, despite the pressure of maybe agents suggesting he should go somewhere else, John said `no,no. I am here now'.
"There was certainly no aggravation between Alex and the club here and what we said was that if he wanted to come and have a look at him there would not have been a problem with that either.
"At the same time we were looking after their interests as best we could and thought keeping them together was a good idea, and, to be fair, I think both John and Stephen thought that as well."
