College places up for grabs this summer
More than 400 youngsters will get a chance to learn from one of Bermuda?s best this summer, as David Bascome?s Pro Soccer Clinic expands yet again.
And college scholarships will be the focus for 100 of the players, as the Baltimore Blast forward has tailored the scheme to help propel the top teenagers towards a shot at the pro game.
?With the continued support of our sponsor we were able to increase the capacity of the programmes this year and offer developmental opportunities to more of our young people,? said Bascome.
?I am particularly excited about having representatives from At First Glance (AFG) attend the College Prospects Programme. Our talented Bermuda players will be exposed to reputable college recruiters, which can open the door for potential college scholarships.?
The 2005 Bank of Bermuda Pro Soccer Clinic and College Prospect Programme is offering a combined total of 405 spots for youth players at various levels of development, with 305 for those from four to 14 years old.
While the older players, 15 to 20, will have the chance to showcase their talents in front of professional athletic recruiters from (AFG), a college athletic recruiting firm designed to help parents and high school student athletes with the college recruiting process.
?The programme will offer a unique opportunity for players to train at a high level with international coaches which will help them develop their overall game skills. All developing players will benefit from participating in the programme,? Bascome added.
Bascome is also offering as many as 15 Bermudian youngsters a chance to follow in his footsteps next summer by again using his strong links with US soccer to help out his up and coming countrymen.
Those impressing this summer at the camps, being held between June 27 and July 3 at the National Sports Centre, will get opportunities the following summer in outdoor football for the Harrisburg Islanders in the Super Y League.
