Colts get a chance to take over at top

Having exited BAA Field on Tuesday night with a last gasp victory over Wolves to move within a single point of league leaders North Village, Devonshire Colts have a golden opportunity to replace them at the summit tonight (9 p.m.).

But first, they will have to enter Devonshire Cougars' Den and overcome the challenge from their fourth-placed rivals.

Out of the reckoning for all the remaining silverware, captain Shannon Burgess and his accompanying cast should have their attention squarely focused on the coveted league title. But then so will their counterparts who, likewise, remain very much in contention as the season enters its climax.

Furthermore, Colts will not have forgotten the last occasion when these two sides paired off against each other back on December 18 - Cougars outscoring them 5-3 during an eight-goal Dudley Eve trophy thriller at the same venue.

Cougars have endured a relatively quiet start to the second-half of the season in comparison to the first and coach Albert Smith and his staff will be looking to cast aside their dubious drawing streak of late.

"My players heads are still held high," Smith said. "They know what's ahead of them, so its just a matter of them putting the work in ... no work, no pay!"

When the coach was asked whether he thought his side may be a little rusty after being out of action for a week, he replied: "We are pretty much healthy and the break was just an added bonus."
