Composed Sims secures fourth
Michael Sims maintained his composure yesterday with a one-under par final round to clinch fourth spot in the South American Tour qualifier in the USA.
Playing at Bonaventure Country Club in Weston, Florida, the Bermudian pro rebounded from a 76 in the third round, shooting 71 as he entered the clubhouse for the final time. This left him at five-under 283 for the tournament and $1,050 richer for his effort.
More importantly, however, it means the 24-year-old - as one of the top 20 finishers - has gained full player-card privileges for the Tour de las Americas which holds events in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia from next month until March 2004.
The day belonged to Swede Magnus Carlsson who claimed his first win on American soil with a final round of 68 for a total of 14-under par 274 ; one shot shy of the course record set by Lucas Glover in the same qualifier last year.
Even-par for the first nine holes, he followed up with four birdies including a victory-sealing forty-five footer on the final green.
