Cougars hand out cup lesson
Vasco Mariners 0 St.David?s 10
If Vasco Mariners had no idea just who the Warriors were prior to the start of this FA Cup clash at Devonshire Rec yesterday, then they?ll certainly be better informed now following a 10 goal trouncing from the Islanders.
St. David?s made light work of their Commercial League opponents, waltzing almost casually into the quarter-finals.
Bayon Robinson gave St.David?s the lead in the 13th minute when he headed home a corner and from that moment on the contest was all but over as the Islanders kept their opponents on the defensive.
Otis Minors doubled St.David?s? lead 13 minutes later before Aaron Lugo scored on the stroke of half-time to give the Warriors a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
If Mariners thought they had any chance of a fightback after the restart, they were in for a shock as St.David?s promptly picked up where they left off with Minors grabbing his second goal of the match in the 46th minute.
Kameron Fox then made it 5-0 with a precision free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box which left ?keeper Joe Luis Viera clutching at thin air as the ball curled in at the back post.
Islanders? ?keeper George O?Brien Jr then got his name on the scoresheet when he converted from the penalty spot to make it 6-0 with still plenty of time left on the clock.
With the match already in the bag, the only question remaining was whether the Islanders could reach double figures.
That was quickly answered as two additional strikes from Gregory Outerbridge and Keimo Bean and another from the boot of Lugo capped a memorable afternoon for the First Division club.
Vasco?s day was then best summed up when ?keeper Viera was sent off in the 90th minute for putting his hand on the referee in heated protest.
