Cougars sink their teeth into sorry Colts
Devonshire Cougars 6 Devonshire Colts 0
Luck would not favour Colts twice.
After a miserable performance landed them with a 1-0 victory over Wolves in a Premier League clash at BAA on Tuesday another lousy display at Devonshire Rec. last night against Cougars in a league clash gave them what they deserved - a severe hiding from a hungry pack of Cougars.
On an evening when victory would have vaulted Colts into first place, they were never able to show that they had the touch of would-be champions.
From start to finish it was a game dominated by the home side who eventually cruised to victory on two goals apiece by Ray Beach, Heys Wolffe and Kori Goddard.
Cougars gratefully accepted the gift of maximum points from punchless Colts and now find themselves in second place, replacing Colts who slip to third.
From the moment striker Beach scored the opening goal with just 13 minutes gone, getting a ball deep in defence from right full-back Devon Brangman and blasting home from close range, Colts were forced to play second fiddle to their opponents.
They did offer slight resistance with Quincy Aberdeen prominent down the right flank and Kuma Smith and Clevon Hill firing long-range shots wide of the post, but Cougars remained in charge and snatched a 2-0 lead through Wolffe after 27 minutes when he teamed up with midfielder Earl Richardson.
The score remained like this until the half, but once play re-started Cougars wasted little time in blooding Colts' face further with hard-working midfield Goddard stretching the lead to 3-0 with a close-range shot.
Colts could do little right, even the usually steady skipper and centre-back Shannon Burgess looked unsteady and was stretched to the limit, although to his credit he was known to be nursing an injury.
Wolffe put the result totally out of reach after 60 minutes with a sensational flick off the outside of his boot from an acute angle, the ball squeezing between goalkeeper Andre Hendrickson and the far post.
Before it was all over Goddard and Beach followed with further goals to end Colts' night of horror.
