Crowd numbers: The Best is yet to come

Despite Tuesday night?s disappointing turn out of spectators for New England Revolution?s opening tour match against a local select, tour organiser Clyde Best anticipates a marked increase in numbers for tonight?s clash at the National Sports Centre.

The visiting Major League Soccer (MLS) side close out a brief two-match tour against Kyle Lightbourne?s national squad tonight at the Sports Centre.

Only 100 or so fans turned up for the first match even though the rain held off for the duration of the match.

Rain had also effected Santos? tour of the Island early last month when the final two matches staged at Somerset Cricket Club fell victim to inclement weather.

But Best is keeping his fingers crossed mother nature co-operates tonight and is optimistic fans will turn out in throngs as Lightbourne continues a quest for a maiden win at the helm of the national team on local soil.

?I think we will see a bigger crowd today with the national team playing and Shaun (Goater) coming back to play,? said the former West Ham striker.

?We all know the mentality of the Bermudian sporting public when it comes to bad weather. I go to football matches in any weather because the show doesn?t stop. But the mentality here seems to be whenever there?s bad weather people don?t go to games.?

When asked would another low turnout tonight have a negative impact on any plans for future tours, Best replied: ?We?ll have to sit down a work things out because it won?t be a decision made overnight. We will have to look at the figures and then go from there.

?But I think the main factor on Tuesday was the weather.?

Tuesday night saw the MLS Western Conference side edged by a local select 2-1 at the Sports Centre.
