Cup match in St. Vincent my target for return
I started light jogging yesterday and I have set a target for my return - the Digicel Cup for Bermuda.
I have spoken to the new gaffer Kyle (Lightbourne) about the dates and that is what I am aiming for.
My rehabilitation is slow but everything is going to schedule and I am working towards returning for national team duty.
Even when I am fit, there is going to be no rush from the Reading gaffer to get me back into the starting line-up because Lloyd Owusu is doing well and Nicky Forster could be fit by then, so my best chance of football is with Bermuda.
Rather than rushing me back onto the bench, it makes more sense for me to travel with the national team and get some good time in on the pitch in a short space of time, so that is what I hope to do in St. Vincent at the end of the month.
I'd like to get a game in for the reserves at Reading before I come back but at least now I have something to work towards and I can push to be ready for that, although I won't be taking any risks while I recover from this calf injury.
This will probably be the last competitive tournament I will play in for Bermuda and I would like nothing more than to fully play my part.
I will be speaking to the gaffer, my mate Kyle, and letting him know how the injury is getting on.
It was nice to do some jogging for the first time yesterday, nice to get outside for a change after all that staring at four walls.
I have had to slowly build up to it, doing light weights and toe curls and walking and jogging in the pool.
It is a case of completing each step at a time pain-free before moving on to the next one.
I have also been doing as much cardio-vascular work as possible, as well as the targeted stuff on my calf, so that when I do return I don't have to do too much to get the rest of my body fit.
I was probably in quite a dour mood for about three or four days right after the injury, thinking to myself ‘why me? why now? how could this happen just as I was finally getting back into the team?'.
But seeing the smiling faces after training because we have been doing so well certainly helped quite a bit.
It is difficult when you are coming back from injury on your own, you have to really concentrate and be focused.
I probably have about two-and-a-half weeks still to go but I have an aim now, so it's just a case of doing what I need to do slowly and effectively to build strength up in my leg so I can return at my best.
