Dante shines at Caribbean meet
Bermuda won 15 medals at the recent Caribbean Union of Teachers' (CUT) ninth Biennial Track and Field Championships in Trinidad.
Seventeen of the best athletes, aged eight to 14, from the Island's public and private schools, stood up to the challenge of 400 of their Caribbean peers and brought home three gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.
The toast of the team was under-11 boys' competitor, Dante Leverock, who earned a complete set of medals with a gold in the 200 metres (28.16 seconds), a silver in the 100 metres (13.52 seconds) and a bronze in the long jump (3.88 metres). That all-round performance earned him the Champion Boy title in the under-11 age group.
Bermuda tied for sixth place with Antigua. The 11-nation meet, which took place onJuly 27 and 28, was won by hosts, Trinidad & Tobago, with Jamaica and Barbados, finishing second and third respectively.
The Bermudian contingent participated in 60 individual events and six relays.

GOLD: Latroya Darrell - under-15 girls' high jump; Dante Leverock - under-11 boys' 200 metres and Nakkia Wells - under-13 boys' high jump.
SILVER: Howard Ascento - under-15 boys' 100 metres; Tre Houston - under-13 boys' 200 metres; Dante Leverock - under-11 boys' 100 metres; Allison Outerbridge - under-11 girls' long jump and Akil Smith - under-15 boys' discus.
BRONZE: Howard Ascento - under-15 boys' long jump; Latroya Darrell - under-15 girls' long jump; Tristan Francis - under-15 boys' 400 metres; Dante Leverock - under-11 boys' long jump; Deanne Lightbourne - under-13 girls' 400 metres; Brittany Pitt - under-15 girls' javelin and the under-15 boys' 4 x 100-metre relay team.
Other members of the team were Donte Brangman, Trey Simons, David Brunson, Nandi Woods, Eulannae Douglas, Whitney Matthew and Akilah Reid.
