Deep pool of talent
Bermuda?s best junior swimmers returned from Canada yesterday having registered a total of 49 personal best swims at the Alberta Provincial Championships in Edmonton.
All 17 swimmers advanced to at least one final at the prestigious meet ? which brought together 800 of the best young swimmers from across North America ? with four people winning medals.
Dalhousie University student Ashley Aitken, 21, won a bronze in the 50 metre butterfly and 14-year-old Nick Thompson claimed two silvers in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Rebecca Sharpe, 14, took silver in the 200m backstroke, setting a new Bermuda age group record in the process while the only gold came in sensational fashion from 11-year-old Warwick Academy student Ashley Yearwood in the 50m butterfly, who also set another national age group record in doing so.
