Bermuda's junior golfers begin their World Junior Championship quest this morning.

Five of the Island's most promising players are teeing up at the prestigious tournament in San Diego, California.

Ebonie Burgess will make history when she becomes the first female Bermudian to compete in the Worlds.

But the Island's greatest hope for success will likely rest with Jarryd Dillas who last year came eighth in the 15-17 age group in San Diego.

Dillas, a long-hitter, will relish the Torrey Pines North Course, a par-72 track which officially measures 7,171 yards but is likely to be stretched to over 7,200 yards for the final round of the four-day tournament.

He will be joined by Tyler Marshall as both aim to make the three-day cut after which only the top 50 and ties will contest the final round. The top six teams - with each consisting of just two players - will also advance.

Marshall tees off at 12.10 p.m. (PST) with Kevin Fortin-Simard of Roberual, Canada, Sean Dunn of Arizona and California's Alvin Lata.

Dillas goes ten minutes later. His playing partners are Michael Chappell of South Carolina, Nick Baratelle of California and Arizona's Ryan Caughlan.

Tyler's brother, Blair, and Mark Phillips are representing Bermuda in the 13-14 division at the nearby Ivanhoe course at Rancho San Diego Golf Club in Cottonwood - a par-72 course measuring 6,652 yards.Playing over 54 holes, Marshall and Phillips also need a top 50 finish over the first two days in order to qualifying for the third and final round.

Phillips begins at 7.40 a.m. with Eric Mina of California and Rashad Hunt of Virginia, while the younger Marshall starts at 7.50 a.m. with company provided by Daniel Brown of Tennessee and Gregor Main of California.

Burgess will tackle the par-74, 6,161 yard Torrey Pines North course, where a 54-hole cut will also be in effect. She sees action at 7.35 a.m. along with Brooke Henderson of Washington and Connie Craig of Calgary, Canada.
