Dillas and Smith rewrite records at Port Royal
Teenagers Jarryd Dillas and David Smith enjoyed a fruitful weekend at home as they carded a record low gross score of 16-under in the Bermuda Four Ball Championship last Sunday.
Playing at Port Royal Golf Club's par-71 course, the duo prevailed by 12 shots over Nick Mansell and Joey McRonald, 268 to 280 in the 72-hole tournament. Dave Allison and Colin Anderson were third with 287.
En route to victory, the Dillas-Smith pair carded rounds of 70, 68, an impressive nine-under 62 on Saturday and another 68 in their final 18 holes.
Meanwhile, Francisco and Gonzolo Gomez won the men's net championship with a score of 263. Max Atherden and Ian Page were second on 270 and Bill Pitt and Leroy Burch, third, with 274. American visitor, Tom Keogh, enjoyed the distinction of a hole-in-one on the eighth hole during the third round.
The latter's South Carolina compatriots, Maryann Soldo and Pat Bevan, also had reason to celebrate as they lifted the women's gross title by four strokes from Gail Kozol and Susie Elton. The winners scored 239 to the runners-up's 243 in the 54-hole event. Lilian Radford and Judy Readwin were third on 249.
