Dogs tamed on day of upsets

There were shocks galore in the Commercial League on Saturday with title favourites Tuff Dogs going down 2-1 to North Village Rams and Robin Hood suffering a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Key West.

Meanwhile, Lobster Pot reached the giddy heights of second after edging out bottom-of-the-table St. George?s 3-2.

Pot dominated the first half and within 25 minutes were 3-0 up. Dave Allison netted twice, the first a delightful chip over the advancing keeper. Jameel Effendy scored his first for Pot with a clinical strike from the edge of the 18-yard area.

Pot ?keeper Brian Ward made some fine saves to keep the home side out but he turned villain in the second half as he gifted Lionel Cann with a soft goal which trickled in, not even reaching the back of the net.

Pot defender Ken Mahadeo was sent off for a ?professional? foul and his team felt the pressure as Herbie Bascome bagged another for the home side. But Pot dug in, taking home all three points which left them second in the table.

Ahead of Pot are Tuff Dogs, beaten by North Village who scored through goals by Masefield Dill and Stevie Dickinson.

MR Onions got off to a flyer in their 6-2 demolition of Devonshire All Stars with Rob Perry netting a fine effort from the edge of the box in the first minute.

Tempers flared and the referee had to call the teams together but as the game settled down Onions dominated with Dave Turner netting twice.

All Stars pulled one back just before half-time after some lame tackles from Onions let an opposing winger reach the touch line and cross for a team-mate to smash into the roof of the net.

All Stars made a few changes at half-time and netted within 30 seconds of the re-start as Onions? defence was caught asleep. A good ball to the forward resulted in a rasping low shot into the net from just outside the box. But Onions soon pulled away with two quick goals. Turner completed his hat trick while the evergreen Keith Donald rifled in a rare goal after a strong run from winger Nick Briggs. Then Rob Perry converted from the edge of the box again after good work from Colin Keane who robbed the All Stars defence.

Key West Rangers defeated Robin Hood at Bernard Park 3-0 but remain behind them on goal difference.

Mark (Garveylinho) Trott netted twice in the first half, the first with a volley from Paul Cann?s cross and the second with a close range header. Key West wrapped it up in the second half with about ten minutes remaining when Vernal (Shubby) Cann struck home after being put through by Ricky Mallory.

BAA slipped to third after going down 3-2 to PHC. Michael Trott and Albert Thomas netted after pouncing on two uncharacteristic BAA defensive lapses which let PHC strikers through one-on-one.

With their third clear chance of the game 12 minutes into second half, PHC went 3-0 up as Thomas got his second. Wanderers had the lion?s share of possession and plenty of chances but poor finishing and resolute PHC defending meant BAA could not find a breakthrough until 20 minutes before time. Jahmal Mills slotted home a penalty after a trip on Martin Jones.

With ten minutes to go Gary Stewart hit the cross-bar and Dave Gibbs was at the far post to knock it in but BAA could not convert late pressure into goals.

In the B Division, Valley maintained their 100 percent record with a 3-2 win over Devonshire Lions.

But for the second week running Valley found themselves trailing at the break. Troy Simmons equalised but Lions took the lead again only to go down to a pair from Kevin McNeil.

It?s all or nothing with Vasco. The team that have yet to draw were in emphatic winning mode on Saturday as they ran riot at Shelly Bay with a 6-0 thumping of Wolves. Paul Frias and Joe Cunha each netted twice while Michael Bean and Mark DeMora got one each.

Somerset Bridge shared ten goals with Dockyard Falcons in a thriller at White Hill. Prolific Falcons? striker Dwayne DeRosa bagged all five, just a week after notching a hat-trick. But every time Falcons scored Somerset Bridge raced up the other end and hit back, although two were parried own goals.

Somerset Extros were left cursing characteristically erratic goalkeeping from Gladstone (Old Hell) Robinson who gifted Prison Officers three goals in the space of ten minutes after Extros had built up a four-goal cushion. The match ended 4-4.

Hardworking Troy (Starsky) Thompson scored two well taken goals, Everett Wellman scored at the near post from a Mike Corday cross and Josef Gooden finished neatly from just inside the box. Then the Extros ?keeper decided to dribble past attackers and lost out three times with the final equalising goal scored late on by Donald Norford adding to Extros? frustrating season.

Prospect/Fire chalked up their second win of the season with the 4-1 defeat of Bermuda Pest Control. Dean Martin had a hat-trick within 22 minutes and team-mate Earl Basden netted just after the break while Pest Control got a consolation late on from Stephen Watts..
