Entry website launched

A new Bermuda sports website - www.raceday.bm - could prove a valuable labour-saver for local athletes and sports organisations.

The site, on which competitors can register for various events, will be test-run on The Athletic Club's 5K road race on June 16.

Raceday.bm is already fully operational and has registered a number of athletes for the event.

It was developed by Bermuda Media, whose owner Ian Coles is himself an enthusiastic triathlete.

Coles says the site will save time and effort for all concerned. "At the moment, to sign up for running, cycling, triathlon, and other events, athletes have to pick up an entry form, fill it out and then hand-deliver back to a sports store," he explained.

"Now participants will will be able to enter and pay by secure credit card transaction over the internet.

"At the same time, they can keep up with the latest news and results in their particular sport. And the site will even feature its own fitness guru, Duncan Newby, who offers personal training via the internet.

"Raceday.bm isn't intended to be a substitute for paper entries but has been designed as a convenience for those who want to enter right at their desktop," continued Coles. "In addition, it provides an individual record for sports participants of what they have entered and how they have fared.

"It is also a boost for race directors because the registrations taken on-line can be uploaded directly into the race management system, saving an enormous amount of keystroking."
