Extros offer holiday extra
Somerset Extros are to host a soccer tournament over the Christmas holidays featuring Commercial Division B rivals Dockyard Falcons, Valley FC and Prison Officers.
Tournament director Terry Corday, a past Trojan forward, is urging the sporting public to come out and enjoy the event as spectators will be randomly chosen from the stands to participate in half-time competitions and other incentives.
"It's going to be a well organised tournament, complete with BRA (Bermuda Referees' Association) officials and we are pleased to have Hill Construction and PM Electrical Services on board as our sponsors," said Corday.
Matches are scheduled to take place under the lights at Somerset Cricket Club, with three double-headers to be played on December 19, 22 and 29.
Only BFA registered players will be eligible to participate. Points will be calculated throughout the tournament to determine the eventual winners.
Proceeds will go towards Somerset's youth soccer programme.
"We anticipate having great fun and I would like to encourage the public to come out and enjoy the atmosphere, because not only will their support be vital to Somerset's junior soccer programme, but also beneficial towards the overall goodwill and sportsmanship within the sport," added Corday.
