FA track down players
Bermuda Football Association is attempting to track down all overseas soccer players in an effort to build up a comprehensive player database.
Chairman of the BFA's education committee, Jon Beard, said the association's Education Committee had started making a list of who was away in college and playing football, and where and what they were studying.
"The BFA is establishing this database to develop contacts with coaches and colleges throughout North America and so that we can assist students, parents and schools in helping students to find the 'best fit' for themselves academically," said Beard.
"We also aim to help in whatever way we can when they finish school and are looking to return to Bermuda for employment or may be looking for contacts for clubs overseas.
"This is not to suggest that the BFA can find jobs or can act as agents for players. Rather that we will help however, and wherever we can in such processes. "Additionally, such a database will enable us to highlight the successes of Bermudians overseas - in football and academically and in doing so it will hopefully encourage others to pursue such an education and, very importantly, start the process as soon as possible."
Beard said hopefully the initiative would enable the BFA to highlight the successes of players such as Damon Ming who was named as the MVP of his US conference last month and John Barry Nusum who was featured for the second time in a row in an article in the publication Soccer America.
Anyone with information about Bermudians studying overseas and playing football should send that information to the BFA as soon as possible either via email to bfanorthrock.bm or by telephoning 295-2199.
Meanwhile, Beard has just been awarded the UEFA 'A'/FA Advanced Coaching Licence.
"This involved a two week course in the UK to enable those of us with the FA Full Licence to convert to the new UEFA 'A' Licence," he said. "This was followed by a number of modules of study that took about two years. I was given an interview this summer, and have just received the confirmation of the award, and the certificate."
