The final two Martonmere Cup semi-final spots go up for grabs tonight at the Den.

Beginning at 7 p.m., last season?s Martonmere Cup semi-finalists Somerset Eagles will compete for the sole Group B berth against struggling Southampton Rangers while Boulevard will attempt to oust reigning champions North Village from the competition in the 9 p.m. Group A night cap at Devonshire Rec.

Devonshire Cougars and Dandy Town have already clinched their respective groups and, as such, secured spots in the October 12th semi-finals.

While Eagles are fresh off an inspiring 1-0 win over nearby rivals Somerset Trojans last Sunday, Rangers remain winless after 180 minutes of football.

In recent matches Southampton?s downfall can be partly attributed to a lack of match fitness while a newly assembled team sporting several youthful players have yet to acclimatise to life in the big leagues.

Rangers have scored only one goal in two outings so far under new coach Derek Scott while conceding seven against ? even with the likes of Dwayne (Streaker) Adams between the posts.

Travis Wilkinson is expected to return to Southampton?s line-up tonight to boost the blue?s midfield after serving out a one game suspension while striker Janeiro Tucker will again be called upon to play a leading role in attack alongside Herbie Dillas and the fiery Craig Darrell.

Full-back Omari Hart, however, is still out nursing a right shoulder injury.

Eagles, on the flip side of the coin, were convincingly beaten by Cougars in their first Martonmere Cup Group B contest last month but they managed to rebound by defeating a beefed-up Trojans line-up over the weekend.

Friendship Trophy runners up for the past two seasons, Eagles are now favoured to advance and meet Town in the semi-finals of the traditional pre-season competition.

The two West End clubs drew 1-1 in their previous meeting last March at White Hill Field.

Meanwhile, in the night cap, Boulevard Blazers are favoured to advance to the final four, that is if current form is anything to go by.

Blazers suffered a 2-1 loss to Hornets in their opening Group A match and they must now dispense of champions Village if they are to earn the right to meet Cougars in the semi-finals.

On Sunday, Boulevard comprehensively dismantled a Rangers outfit at BAA Field with former blues player/coach Meshach Wade netting twice against his former club.

Wade appears to have settled in nicely at his new abode while returning veterans Dwight (Payback) Warren and Albert Caisey have also looked solid. Blazers provided the club?s fans with a brief glimpse of the future in the form of youngsters Angelo Simmons and Gregory Johnson who were both in menacing form against Rangers over the weekend.

Like Cougars and Town, Boulevard have also been pencilled in as one of the teams to beat this season after having their ranks bolstered over the off-season with the likes of Wade, Warren and Marvin Belboda.

Blazers handed Village a 1-0 loss during the two urban club?s previous league meeting last January at Bernard Park.

Village, meanwhile, suffered a second successive loss against a nine-men Cougars outfit on home turf last Sunday and will now be without the services of striker Damon Wade who was sent off against the big cats over the weekend.
