Warwick handed Somerset Bridge a seven wicket defeat at Southampton Oval.

Spearheading Warwick's comprehensive win were young seamers Chris Douglas and Lamar Caines who shared 16 wickets between them coupled by a well-crafted century from skipper Kian Butterfield and brisk knocks from the bats of Stephen Bremar Jr and Damon Taylor.

Batting first, Bridge were bundled out for 165 in 40 overs with Adrian Burrows (34), Clarence Trott (30), Denzil (Babes) Dill 25 not out and Ezekiel Greenwood the only batsmen managing double figures.

Douglas proved to be the scourge of the Bridge batsmen on his way to grabbing an outstanding six for 55 while Caines took two for 25.

In reply, Warwick post 225 on the crest of Butterfield's ton, scored off 130 balls and containing 17 fours and two sixes. Michael Kelly added 51 off 84 balls as the home forged a 60 run first innings lead.

Dill was the pick of the Bridge bowling with impressive figures of four for 58 while fellow veteran Corvette (Corky) Lambert took two wickets, but at a cost of 82 runs.

In their second innings, Bridge managed to score 190 runs, leaving Warwick needing 131 runs for victory. Clarence Trott top scored for Bridge in their second innings with 56, Darin Dowling added 30 with Burrows and Dill weighing in with 20 and 23 respectively.

Douglas again lead the Warwick bowling with six wickets for 79 runs with Caines claiming two for 41.

Warwick knocked off the required runs with seven wickets in hand with Stephen Bremar smashing 61 off 35 balls (eight fours and three sixes) and Damon Taylor scoring en equally robust 42 off 45 balls, containing five fours and a six.

Derek (Ruffins) Hill took two of the three Warwick wickets to fall.

Tony Cheeseman and Azeem Pitcher both scored centuries but it was still not enough to prevent Police from earning a share of the spoils at Police Field.

Cheeseman scored 107 runs as Somerset posted a mammoth 270 runs all out in the first innings. Police replied with 121 but were spared the blushes as Somerset declined to enforce the follow on.

Instead, the visitors used the opportunity to get more batting practise out in the middle, with Pitcher taking full advantage by smashing an unbeaten 102.

Somerset declared their second innings at 236 for eight shortly after Pitcher reached the milestone.

Police were poised at 70 for two when both teams conceded the inevitable draw.

There were no further details on this match at press time last night.

Leg Trappers skipper Luke O'Connor and Cleveland's Courtney Trott both hammered centuries but this game at Sea Breeze Oval still ended in a tame draw.

Batting first Cleveland reached a respectable 195 with Kevin Shiell striking 75 not out. Colin Scaife was the leading bowler for Trappers finishing with five wickets for 51 off 24 overs.

Trappers made a positive response by putting up 277 runs with O'Connor scoring 106 not out with 13 fours. Pamauri Tucker took four for 94 off 22 overs.

Batting a second time yesterday, Courtney Trott led Cleveland to 287 by striking 120, including ten fours and three sixes. Graham Strange took three for 45 off 16 overs.

Trappers lost four quick wickets when they batted a second time but there remained too few overs for Cleveland bowlers to do any further damage to prevent the draw.

The game between PHC and Flatts at White Hill was postponed after a strange twist.

The teams reportedly agreed that after making the toss the batting team would provide the umpires. Flatts won the toss but are alleged to have changed their mind and refused to have their openers come to bat.
