Fitted dinghy finale postponed

Bermuda's fitted dinghy racing season finale has been postponed for the second consecutive weekend.

Wiped out by Hurricane Fabian last Sunday, racing has now been called off again as a direct result of damage sustained in that storm.

According to fitted dinghy spokesperson Jenny Mello, the stake boat has suffered damage and the start barge is too busy helping to recover sunken craft and carrying out other repair work.

Mello said yesterday she was still waiting to see whether the barge would be available for racing next Sunday.

With three races remaining, including the Jubilee Cup, Somers Kempe and his crew on Contest are heavily favoured to lift the prestigious Coronation Cup for overall season honours.

Second-placed Elizabeth, with Mike Lewis at the helm, would have to win two of the final three races and hope that Contest fared poorly in the third in order to make up the points difference.

Contest currently has 55.12 points followed by Elizabeth on 48. 34, Victory on 39.14 and Challenger on 21.
