Five star Trojans wage war on Division One Rangers

Three converted penalties and two further goals from close range, all in the second half, saw visiting Somerset Trojans turn a depressingly poor performance into one that eventually relieved their large number of fans.

Until Trojans found themselves and ruthlessly tore apart their First Division opponents at Malabar, one feared that the minnows could come up with one of those surprises that often occur in the FA Cup.

After the interval, Trojans got early goals from Chris Moulder (penalty) and Rohaan Simons to take complete charge of the game and never once allowed Rangers to get any sort of momentum.

Further goals came from Moulder via the penalty spot again, Simons then got another before substitute Reid Jones rounded off the scoring with yet another penalty.

The lack of goals in the opening half was due to the woefully poor finishing by the Trojans who really should have blown their opponents away within the first 25 minutes and put the result beyond any doubt.

Rangers were pinned down for the majority of the half and would have been amazed at the ineptness upfront of the Trojan forwards with Clevon Hill, Dion Stovell and Simons the main offenders.

Their misery started after 12 minutes when Moulder fed Simons a through ball but the agile forward finished off the raid with a shot wide from 14 yards.

Two minutes later Simons, who did make some stirring runs despite some atrocious finishing, pulled off a splendid effort by firmly heading a Richard Scott cross which sailed just wide of the near post.

Three minutes later, Hill was through on a breakaway but Ricardo Tucker in the Rangers goal pulled off a brilliant save.

Then with the game 20 minutes old, Stovell and Hill came up with blunders after being in goalscoring positions and soon Simons joined them ? had these chances been put away the Trojans could have been leading by four.

Simons did have the misfortune of seeing Tucker dive to save his fine effort, the goalkeeper moving to his left to palm away a vicious effort.

As the Trojans pressed forward with no luck, Rangers, who had Jermaine Burrows playing solidly in the middle of their defence, accomplished little going forward until the game was 32 minutes old.

It was then that Trojans skipper Karl Roberts and goalkeeper Timmy Figureido had a misunderstanding and allowed hard-working striker Jonathon Bean to slip through but he hurried his shot just wide of the far post.

A minute later, the Trojans were in position to go ahead when Tristan Coddington handled in front of goal, but Simons? spot kick was denied by another brilliant save by Tucker.

And if this agony wasn?t enough, Simons then blew another chance seconds before the half when he rifled a shot over from 12 yards.

But it was all change after the break.

Trevor Corday fouled Richard Scott after 52 minutes and Moulder struck his first penalty. Five minutes later, Simons latched on to a cross from Hill and struck it home from close range to make it 2-0.

After 65 minutes Jermaine Burrows handled and seconds later was sent off by referee George O?Brien for using foul language, Moulder converted the spot kick to put his team three up.

After 72 minutes, and with the Rangers? defence wilting, Simons took advantage of a defesnive error to score a gift and make it 4-0.

Against the run of play, Corday came close to getting a consolation goal for Rangers but his blast from 20 yards crashed against the bar.

Right at the end, Rangers had substitute Leslie Trew sent off for using his hands to prevent a fifth goal from being scored, this time Jones was given the privilege of taking the spot kick ? and he made no mistake.
