Foggo's having a swinging time
Having acclimatised to the "swinging" conditions in England, Chris Foggo is enjoying life in the Surrey County League, writes Colin Thompson.
Foggo is under the tutelage of former Bermuda national team coach Roland Butcher at Pyrford Cricket Club.
In cool conditions last weekend, the Woking-based team got off to a flying start in their opening league match against Sinjuns Cricket Club, registering a mammoth 250 for five in 43 overs before skittling their opponents out for a paltry 88 in just 23 overs.
Although Foggo only contributed ten runs to his team's total, coach Butcher says that the youngster looks good in training and that eventually he will come into his own as the season progresses.
"Chris is doing well. He looks good in the nets and really he has nothing to worry about," said Butcher from Surrey yesterday. "He's getting used to the weather, the atmosphere and the pitches and really he has just got to be patient and learn as much as he can game by game."
Butcher said Foggo was progressing nicely.
"A couple of weeks ago in one of the friendly matches he scored 78, so at the moment he is trying to get used to the conditions," he said.
"It's been cool over the last couple of weeks. Obviously this time of year the pitches are very slow and there is quite a lot of swing. So it's really an adjustment period for him, but by the time the sun comes out he should be in good form."
Butcher also added that Foggo was doing a tidy job behind the stumps and, surprisingly, having a go at bowling his self-proclaimed medium pacers.
"On Tuesday we played in a friendly 20 over match and Chris actually bowled and took a wicket," added Butcher.
"He believes he's bowling medium fast, but really it is just medium."
With club team mate OJ Pitcher making the long trek to the UK next week Foggo can't wait to pair up with his colleague.
"Chris should be a lot happier when OJ comes here," Butcher added. "At the moment he is being looked after by the club. The club has a flat where Chris, OJ and an overseas player from Pakistan will all be staying so they will be OK."
Pyrford play their second league fixture at home today when they host Wallingford Cricket Club.
