Four new faces for Namibia semi-final

It?s all change at the top of the batting order as Bermuda?s selectors wielded the axe ahead of next month?s trip to Namibia.

The 13-man team for the ICC Continental Cup was revealed to the players at training last night with four new faces being drafted in for the semi-final clash with Kenya on October 23.

One of the few weaknesses during the Americas cup leg of the three-day competition was a dearth of runs coming from the openers and that is the area that has come under most scrutiny from the Island?s selectors.

Curtis Jackson, returning to the squad after a five-year absence, and Kwame Tucker are expected to be the new openers while Kevin Tucker has also made a surprise arrival in a team that is hoping to continue the good work begun in Canada last month with victories over the hosts and Cayman.

Batting powerhouse Lionel Cann has made his expected return into the side after missing the Toronto trip while youngsters Rodney Trott, Azeem Pitcher, Jekon Edness, Jacobi Robinson and Jim West have all made the standby list.

Kevin Tucker?s inclusion is easily the biggest surprise among the new names, with the youngster a beneficiary of coach Gus Logie?s policy of inclusion.

The left-arm fast-medium bowler approached Logie with a view to being a net bowler five months ago and has impressed sufficiently to earn his chance in Windhoek.

After failing to produce runs at the top of the order, Graham Strange and Daniel Morgan are out, although Morgan will revert to his physio role and will still make the Africa-bound plane in just under three weeks.

Although the openers were expected to fall under the axe, there was still debate raging as to who should come in to the squad as replacements, with news that the ever-dangerous Glenn Blakeney was back in training getting many excited.

But it is understood his failure to attend sessions made him all but ineligible, the same fate also befell Dion Stovell, available again after a lengthy suspension, who failed to show regularly enough to justify inclusion.

Chris Foggo, recently announced as Cup Match MVP, is another to fall out of favour, although his training infrequency was understood to again be a factor in the decision to leave him out.

Needless to say skipper Clay Smith and vice-captain Janeiro Tucker kept their places as did Irving Romaine, wicketkeeper Dean Minors and Saleem Mukuddem.

On the bowling front, seamers Kevin Hurdle and Ryan Steede are again included while the spin will be provided by the ever-reliable Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock and Hasan Durham.
