Fox and Rego land the title

Fifteen striped marlins, two dolphins and two wahoos later, Bermudian anglers Danny Fox and Bobby Rego were crowned champions of the fourth annual Rolex/International Game Fish Association Offshore Championship tournament in Los Cabos, Baja, Mexico.

The local anglers clinched the tournament in grand style by landing seven striped marlins during yesterday's final day of the four day event.

"To come from Bermuda and win this tournament is difficult to describe," said an elated Rego from Mexico last night. "We are just ecstatic. The conditions have been ideal as far as sea conditions are concerned and the fish have been absolutely fabulous. Today alone, almost one hundred fish were released by the tournament boats."

The Bermudian pair entered the final day with a massive 400 point lead over a local team from Mexico.

"The four teams that were within 400 points needed two fish more than we got and we managed to get off to a great start this morning with two caught by 8 a.m.," added Rego. "Then we got five more which meant that all of the teams would have needed nine fish which neither were able to manage."

According to Rego, the celebrations will extend far into the weekend.

"We are absolutely over the moon. We have worked extremely well as a team," added the current Bermuda International Light Weight Tackle champion.

After a brief stop in Las Vegas, the local pair return to the Island next Thursday.
