Gazette win friendly

overcame a disputed penalty and a late second-half revival to come away victorious against Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute at BAA Field on Tuesday night, winning 2-1.

Galvanised by the hard running of Kijuan Franks, Cheyra Bell, Gary Augustus and Calvert Lee up front, and some solid defensive play by Treadwell Walker, Kenneth Darrell and Raymond Doars, had just enough gas in the tank to prevail over a Mid Atlantic side during a fiercely contested battle.

Jamie Cedinio forged ahead midway through the first half with a thunderbolt of a shot from an angle that cannoned into the top left hand corner of goal past the hapless ?keeper.

Yet before the dust had time to settle, Mid Atlantic, with Leonard Hypolite orchestrating in midfield, were back on even terms ? albeit in controversial fashion.

The referee, standing in the opposite half of the pitch, blew Walker for a soft foul in the box, much to the disapproval of players.

Nolan Walker buried his spot kick amid ongoing bickering from both teams, thus setting the stage for Franks? game-winning heroics.

The St. David?s centre half grabbed the opportunity to shine with both hands, scoring directly from an inswinging corner that was helped across the line by the unsuspecting ?keeper who protested, to no avail, that the ball had gone out of play.

Having won the first encounter, elected to give their opponents another bite at the cherry, only this time playing with nine men.

However, the contest was abandoned after only ten minutes following a disputed referee?s call with leading 2-0 on goals from Franks and Lee.
