Gimelstob added to Bermuda field
Another world-rated tennis player will be playing in the upcoming XL Capital Bermuda Open.
American Justin Gimelstob, who once represented his country at Davis Cup level, has been given a wild card entry into the singles main draw for the April 13-21 competition at Coral Beach Club.
Tournament organisers have indicated that he may also play doubles.
Since turning professional in 1996, the New Jersey native (now resident in Florida) has earned $1.5 million in prize money and is currently ranked number 114 in singles in the world - up from number 142 at the end of last year.
Gimelstob enjoyed his best singles ranking in April, 1999, when he reached number 53 and his best doubles ranking in May, 2000, when he was at number 18.
The 25-year-old has captured nine doubles titles but his singles career has been less successful with no championships and a 70-105 win/loss record.
On the Gram Slam circuit, there has been little for Gimelstob to shout about, with third round exits in Wimbledon (2000) and the US Open (1997 and 1999) his best efforts to date.
Clearly, he will be among those players looking to rejuvenate their careers with a positive showing at the XL Open.
He has been knocked out in the opening round of six of the seven singles tournaments he has entered this year.
Gimelstob's best result for 2002 was reaching the last 16 in the International Series Gold championship in Memphis, Tennessee, in February.
In that event, he was thwarted from advancing to the quarter-finals by Germany's Tommy Haas. This year, so far, the American has won $36 159 in prize money.
