Goal-happy Goater ready to return

Shaun Goater is fighting fit and ready to return to Steve Tilson?s side as they aim to cut down Nottingham Forest on their way to eight successive wins.

The Shrimpers have reached a remarkable second in the table thanks to the seven-game win streak that saw Tilson pick up the Manager of the Month award for September and they take on Gary Megson?s side tomorrow in Sky Sports? televised game.

And Goater is available for selection again after missing the trip to Gillingham with a bruised instep he picked up during the 4-1 win over Yeovil last week.

But despite having already bagged five goals this season, the veteran Bermudian is far from being a shoo-in to Tilson?s side with fellow strikers Wayne Gray, Freddy Eastwood and James Lawson also enjoying fine form at the moment.

Goater will be desperate to play in a match that has already seen 9,000 ticket sales and could provide the largest crowd of the season for the League One side as excitement mounts in Essex. But Tilson is determined not to let the players get too carried away about the side?s remarkable run up the table.

?We?ve come a long way and our situation is looking really good at the moment,? Tilson told the club?s official website ahead of the clash that has netted the newly-promoted side ?30,000 ($55,000) in television money.

?But things can alter fast and I?m keeping the lads? feet firmly on the ground. All I?m aiming for is to get 52 points and then I?ll re-evaluate the situation.

?If we?re still at the top end of the table around Christmas time anything can happen and perhaps we can then start thinking about the play-offs ? but first things first, we must still get three points tomorrow.?

Meanwhile stateside, Khano Smith is again expected to start on the bench for the New England Revolution as they take on the Kansas City Wizards in their final road trip of the season.

The Revolution still need four points, or results to go their way, from their remaining two games to clinch first place in the Eastern Conference. They have already secured a spot in the play-offs.
