<Bz53>Goat to run in Beach 5K

The deadline for entries into the new IAS & Park Beach to Beach 5K race this Sunday has been extended to Friday evening.

Organisers have decided to accept late entries during number pick-up at the Cathedral Hall on Friday afternoon. And they have also announced that Bermuda football hero Shaun Goater and other members of the newly formed Bermuda Hogges team have signed up to take part in the event.

The 5K race will be held for the first time at Horseshoe Bay beach after it was decided that its former venue at Dockyard was too remote for many competitors to reach on a Sunday morning. Runners will now start at Horseshoe Bay beach, run across the sand and through the dune trail to the car park at Chaplin Bay and up to the entrance of the Regiment on South Road, from their the main race heads out to Astwood Park and then returns by the same route.

A junior race, part of the KPMG series, will take youngsters along the same route as far as the Regiment entrance, the youngsters will then divert westward along South Road back to Horseshoe Bay. Both races start and finish on the beach. Draw prizes including travel vouchers and Nano iPods for youngsters, will be on offer afterwards to all competitors, thanks to support from Meyer-Franklin Travel and the Apple store in Hamilton.

The event, which is being staged with the assistance of the Bermuda Pacers Track Club, is raising funds for the Coalition for the Protection of Children.

Late entries and race number and T-shirt collection will be available at the Cathedral Hall on Friday between 3.30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
