Goater comes close to opening Coventry account

Shaun Goater?s Coventry remain two points clear of relegation with just two matches to go after a 1-1 draw with Plymouth on Saturday.

The Bermudian striker, on loan until the end of the season from Reading, was dropped from the starting line-up for the first time in five games but came on with 37 minutes to go and twice came close to securing a victory for his new side.

Trinidadian international Stern John, who replaced him in the starting XI, gave the Sky Blues the lead on the stroke of half time and Goater, who replaced Dele Adebola after 53 minutes, was just off target with a header and then a curling shot in the last ten minutes.

Plymouth equalised in injury time through Tony Capaldi, although Coventry boss Micky Adams claimed Goater was fouled in the build up to the goal ? he was also angry at the five minutes that referee Lee Probert added on.

?Firstly that he (Probert) has played more than enough time and secondly there was a foul on Shaun Goater. It was a clear foul,? said Adams after the draw.

?From where I was I thought he was quite clearly impeded in clearing the ball. I?ve got to be very careful how I choose my words but there was an obvious foul on Goater in the build up to the goal that the referee should have seen.?

Meanwhile fellow Bermudian striker John Barry Nusum scored the game-winning goal as his Philadelphia KiXX rounded off the Major Indoor Soccer League regular season with an 8-2 victory over the Kansas City Comets.

It was the Bermuda Athlete of the Year?s 28th league goal and first game-winning strike in his 31 games for the KiXX in his rookie season. The KiXX finished third in the league and will take on the Cleveland Force this Friday over a two-game series in the first round of the play-offs.

David Bascome?s Baltimore Blast, twice MISL champions, finished their disappointing, injury-hit season outside the play-off places.
