Goater draws a blank as Reading battle for a point

Shaun Goater drew a blank as Reading fought out a goalless draw with the Bermudian striker's old club Rotherham yesterday.

The Royals are third in the First Division standings after the clash at the Madjeski Stadium, but their attacking flair deserted them throughout the 90 minutes and Alan Pardew's side were never able to take control despite long periods of pressure.

Goater's only contribution of note came in the second minute when he laid the ball off on the edge of the box to give Steve Sidwell space to curl a shot goalwards. However, Millers `keeper Mike Pollitt dived to his left to parry the ball to safety.

The 33-year-old was substituted after 58 minutes, Nathan Tyson taking his place.
