Goater injury blow
Shaun Goater limped out of Manchester City's clash with Portsmouth on Saturday and saw his side crash to two second-half goals.
Darren Huckerby had put City 1-0 up at Fratton Park but with 38 minutes gone Goater suffered an injury and was replaced by debutant Leon Mike.
Without the country's leading scorer, City lost their way and succumbed to strikes from Lee Bradbury and Peter Crouch.
City boss Kevin Keegan said he did not know how long Goater might be on the sidelines.
"He has got 20 goals for us at the start of November and obviously he is a key player," he said. "Injuries will happen - I just think he has tweaked his groin."
Keegan said he believed his side should have come away with at least a point.
"I don't think we deserved to lose," he said. "We created at least six very good chances away from home and have left with a 2-1 defeat. I think our supporters will be saying that the game should have been won at half-time, but if you don't take chances or kill teams off in this division then you will pay for it."
Kyle Lightbourne missed his FA Cup debut for Macclesfield at the weekend through injury.
The Bermudian saw his side throw away a 2-1 lead to non-league Forest Green who equalised in the 82nd minute to force a replay.
