Goater on bench again

Manchester boss Kevin Keegan may drop striker Darren Huckerby for tonight's mouthwatering clash at Arsenal, but that does not mean there will be a place in the starting line-up for Shaun Goater.

Goater has had to make do with a place on the bench in recent matches as Keegan has opted to play Huckerby and ?13-million hitman Nicolas Anelka.

Anelka will be relishing the return to Highbury, where he first came to prominence before heading off for an ill-judged stint at Real Madrid, and the manager is apparently considering playing him as a lone striker.

It was a tactic that backfired spectacularly in the opening game of the season against Leeds when the Yorkshire club spanked City 3-0.

Goater is fit and raring to go, but if Huckerby is dropped it may be another long night on the bench for the Bermudian, with the manager unlikely to try anything as cavalier as putting two or three forwards on against a team with the destructive power of Arsene Wenger's side.

Kyle Lightbourne and Macclesfield Town take on Second Division Barnsley in the Worthington Cup tomorrow night looking to build on their impressive win over Bristol Rovers in the League on Sunday.
