Goodwill stretched over five days

Bigger and better. That?s the word on the 52nd annual Goodwill Golf Tournament which gets underway this Sunday under a new format.

While traditionally the tournament has run over four days at four of the Island?s courses, this year five courses will be used and the teams comprising one professional and three amateurs ? mostly from North America ? will be required to play for five straight days.

For the first time since its inception in 1952, the annual event has been extended from 72 to 90 holes.

Riddell?s Bay, Mid Ocean Club, Tucker?s Point, Port Royal and Belmont Hills will jointly host the tournament with each team required to play all five courses.

Returning will be last year?s overall team champions Montgomery Country Club of Maryland along with last year?s Senior Division winners, Country Club Orange Park of Florida, led by Champions Tour player Bob Duval.

Duval is the father of former British Open champion David Duval who still plays on the US PGA circuit.

Also returning to the Island will be trick shot artist Peter Longo who will on hand at Bermuda Golf Academy in Southampton next Thursday to put on an exhibition.

?I think Bermuda is going to be a very busy place when these players come back to grace our shores,? said tournament chairman Alex Madeiros.

?The public are invited to every golf course to watch some of these players and it is just a tremendous event to be proud of. I think it?s going to be very competitive and also as lot of fun.?
