Govia spins Bay to comfortable victory
Leg Trappers 259 and 94-9
Social Club 102 and 250
Leg Trappers overcame a spirited Social Club by a solitary wicket in this First Division match at Sea Breeze Oval. But a nervous Trappers side almost came a cropper chasing only 93 to win yesterday evening.
After Trappers scored an imposing 259 batting first and decided to enforce the follow-on after dismissing Social Club in their first innings for 102, Charlie Marshall?s men fought their way back into the match thanks to an inspired 83 down the order from Dean Bean.
Trappers then found themselves floundering at 43 for six in the face of determined bowling from Kenny Phillips (three for 24) and Dean Bean (two for 26).
But number seven bat Damian Henderson (31) reclaimed the initiative for Trappers ? though the real hero of the day was Gary Knight who sustained a three-inch gash in his foot having trod on some coral while retrieving a ball from the sea, only to return from hospital to bat at number 10 and guide his side home with a brave nine not out.
During Trappers? first innings Luke O?Connor, who trained with the national team last year along with fellow Trapper Graham Strange, registered the first century of the season with an excellent 102.
