Gurret wins age group

One of Bermuda's former top road runners is now making her mark overseas as a triathlete.Bermudian Cathy Gurret, now living in San Diego, California, ran away with age division honours at the recent Jamba Juice City of Los Angeles Triathlon.Competing in the 45-49 age group, Gurret clocked two hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds over the Olympic distance event which featured a 1.5 kilometre swim, 40 kilometre cycle and 10 kilometre run. She beat out 18 age group rivals from Texas, Arizona and California.

More than 3,000 competitors took part in the race, including some of America's top pros.

Gurret is married to former Bermuda resident Giuseppe Lama, himself a talented runner.
