Harness racing
Harness racing fans were treated to another evening of exciting action at Vesey Street on Saturday night.
There were six double winners including Colby Sousa's Crunchtime, Fernand Rego's Little Bear and Nateway, driven by Phillip Correia. Bill Booth's LA Winning Ticket was also among the evening's list of double winners, extending his current win streak to six.
Championne County, driven by Michael Soares, won both heats of the 1:07.1-1:09.1 B division time bar and, likewise, Michael DeCosta's speedy new mare, Shady's Liberty, also won both of her heats in the A division of the same time bar.
During the final race of the night, a 'free for all', Nick DeCosta guided GV Colonel Spence across the line first in 1:05.3 - the fastest time recorded this season and just three fifths of a second off the present track record.
Bobby DeGraff's Rocket Ride came in second in a time of 1:06, while Eddie Roque's Tuxedo's Bowtie finished third in 1:06.1.
All indications are that the track record will fall over the course of this season. Racing resumes at Vesey Street this Saturday evening, starting at 6.30.
