Hockey team go down fighting
Bermuda lost their opening game of the Pan-American Under-21 ladies? hockey tournament in Puerto Rico when they went down 2-0 to Barbados on Wednesday.
The young team gave starts to Jasmine Patterson (14), Tse Minors (15), Brittany Farias (15) and Keishae Robinson (16).
And it was Bermuda who nearly opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Clemmie Stubbs? goal-bound penalty corner was just tipped around the post. Ten minutes later Erica Frith hit the side netting from a narrow angle.
But in the 21st minute Barbados went ahead from a penalty corner deflected inside the right hand post.
After that Barbados had the better of the first half with Bermuda ?keeper Robinson forced to come up with good saves.
In the second half, Bermuda had two early penalty corners but failed to convert while at the other end Robinson again made a series of good saves.
But she couldn?t prevent another penalty corner from Barbados in the 45th minute which resulted in their second goal.
The game then saw action move from end to end with the best chance from Bermuda coming in the 67th minute when Erica Frith?s first-time shot narrowly failed to find the target.
