Hood end the season on a high
League champions Robin Hood closed out a successful 2001/02 campaign with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over North Village Rams on Saturday.
Goals from Derek Stapley, Simon Turner and Alan Mooney were more than enough for Hood. Rams managed to grab a late consolation via 'keeper George Hayward's 85th minute spot-kick.
Meanwhile, MR Onions' 2-1 come-from-behind win over Vasco Mariners effectively hammered the final nail into the Portugese club's coffin.
Mariners' Joe Cunha gave his side a brief glimmer of hope in the early goings with a second minute strike. However, Onions' Rob Marsden levelled the teams just after the break and Paul Coates applied the knockout punch that sent Mariners spiralling out of the 'A' division along with PHC Raiders.
In the upset of the day, BAA Wanderers found the proceedings to their liking against Key West Rangers.
After taking a 3-0 lead into the half through goals from Gary Wilson, Benbatoul Mohssine, and Jahmall Mills, second half substitute Tommy Gribbin added the fruit to the pudding with a late strike that thwarted Rangers' hopes of a second place finish.
As he has done for the most part of the season, Lobster Pots' Troy Berkeley once again found the target for his team during their narrow 1-0 win over PHC Raiders.
'B' Division champions St.George's All-Stars outscored fellow promotion clinching Prison Officers in a free-scoring 8-5 win. Like on Noah's Ark, St.George's scored in pairs, as Lionel Cann, Andrew and William Richardson all responded at the double. Team captain Freddie Hall and Jamie Robinson rounded out the scoring for the east enders, while runners-up Officers' heroes will go unheralded as no match report was submitted to the BFA offices by the referee.
Bermuda Pest Control and Valley slugged it out in an exciting 3-3 draw. Valley's Kevin Isaac regained his scoring touch in front of goal to grab two strikes, while Troy Simmons provided the other tally. Pest responded through Kenny Francis, Jamie Mathews and super-sub Damon Smith.
At the Den, visiting Dockyard Falcons swooped down upon Devonshire Lions to soar away with an easy 5-1 win. Junior DeSilva, Johnny Perriera, Terance Corday, Denzil Dill and Charles 'Buckjuice' Swan - who exchanged his 'keepers attire to get in on the action - put the match way beyond their guests reach.
All-Stars could only manage a goal by James Raynor in reply.
Devonshire Allstars finished their season on a high note despite not even having to kick a ball, as Wolves seemingly 'Pack-ed' it in early.
In the division's remaining fixture, Somerset Extros doused Prospect/Fire's flame during a convincing 4-1 win. Edgar Smith resumed his scoring exploits of the previous week by notching a pair for the west enders on this occasion, while Troy 'Starsky' Thompson and Lloyd Telford ably contributed with a goal apiece. Theron Smith replied for Prospect.
