Hornets look to gain ground
Mindful of Sunday's significant match between league leaders North Village and second-placed PHC, defending Premier Division champions Dandy Town will be eager to make the most of their match against relegation-bound St. George's Colts at St. John's Field tonight (9 p.m.).
With two-thirds of the season complete, Andrew Bascome's well-blended team of youth and experience remain in contention for league honours, as do the five clubs above them.
Village stand at the summit, but only three points separate them from the sixth-placed Hornets in one of the closest run-ins for several years.
Town got off to an inauspicious start to the defence of their title after succumbing to a series of injury setbacks to marquee players.
But despite that slow start they have managed to stay within striking distance of the leaders.
With new acquisition Janeiro Tucker finding the net with regularity these days along with Seyoum Tuzo, opponents should take notice of the fact that they are still to burn on all cylinders as Darron (Duke) Simons remains dormant along with Corey Hill who has just returned for another stint with the club.
Town, undefeated since November 24 after their 3-0 home loss to Devonshire Cougars, walked away from Wellington Oval with maximum points during the teams' previous encounter back on November 4. That time they won 2-0 and more recently they comprehensively defeated the east enders 3-0 in the Friendship Trophy at St. John's Field.
The match will be preceded by a Women's League clash between Dandy Stars and Hemisphere Royals, which gets underway at 7 p.m..
