Hot to Trott
Kejon Trott has a lot to learn if he is to fulfil his ambitions in boxing ? going to Olympics and then going pro ? but there is one part of the fight game he is already incredibly proficient at, trash talking.
?It is not a matter of if I am going to win, it is a matter of when,? said the 19-year-old Arizona Golden Gloves champion when asked about his rematch with Andre Bean in this Saturday?s Fight Night.
?I know I am going to win. This fight is mine, this belt is mine. There is a new kid on the block, this is my title, my title.?
Trott, who holds a 3-2 amateur record, will take on Bean, ten years his senior, for the middleweight belt on Saturday in the penultimate bout of the night.
It is a rematch of their encounter on the Teresa Perozzi pro card last month when a points decision went against him in his first bout on home soil.
?That was the wrong decision, I am telling you that now,? said Trott, who agreed the rematch with his opponent before the judges? decision was even in.
?I am going to set the record straight on Saturday. There will be no need for judges, this is going to be an easy win for me, trust me, I am talking the truth.?
And Trott was keen to make much of the non-appearance of his opponent for yesterday?s photocall at
The youngster arrived 20 minutes early for the appointment while Bean didn?t show up at all, allowing Trott to get his desire of being pictured alone with the belt that is up for grabs.
?He ain?t shown ?cos he?s scared,? said the cocky youngster.
?He?s scared see, he didn?t want to face me, he knows he is going down. This is my belt, they should put my name on it now. I am holding it now and I will be holding it again on Saturday.?
As well as just the title on the line, the winner is also expected to become Bermuda?s representative in the middleweight division for the upcoming Caribbean Amateur Boxing Championships in June.
Meanwhile, the hype for the annual Teachers Rugby Club fundraiser has got tickets flying off the shelves with organisers predicting a sell-out by Friday for the March Madness event to be held in Number One Shed.
The fight card features 11 fights before the showpiece events which see Trott and Bean go head to head before Joshua Smith and Leo Richardson battle it out for the heavyweight championship in top billing for the night.
