Hunt rises to the occasion

Fraser Hunt took advantage of a final round collapse by third round leader Aaron James to capture the overall and Boys 15-17 titles during the Atlantic International Golf Championships, which finished at the Mid Ocean Golf Club yesterday.

Hunt, trailing James by three strokes entering the day, carded a 71, for an overall total of 294. That was in stark contrast to James, who fired 81, leaving him level with Jarryd Dillas and Nick Dunkle at 301.

Chris Smith took the 18-21 group and was second overall after his final 73 took his gross to 299, six ahead of Conner O'Shea (74-305), with Scott Roy a stroke further back.

Shane Kelly saved his best for last, a 76 spurring him to 316, 12 shots ahead of second place Andrew Osborne.

Nick Jones captured the 11-12 division, producing an 88, for a four round score of 333, five ahead of Mark Phillips.

Josh Cabrera managed a 46 over nine holes, giving him 189 for the week and the 10 and Under title.

The see-saw battle continued among the girls 15-17 group, this time Ebony Burgess taking the lead role with a final round 77 that gave her the title ahead of Laura Robinson, who faded with a 86. Burgess finished on 320, with Robinson eight strokes back.

Meanwhile Bermuda's leading amateur Michael Sims remained in contention at the prestigious Porter Cup tournament at the Niagara Fall Country Club yesterday when he fired a third round even-par 70.

On a crowded leader board, Sims goes into today's final round just four shots off the lead held by Matt McQuillan.

McQuillan also carded even-par yesterday to remain at two-under after three rounds. Sims is at two over after rounds of 73-69-70.
