I want to get back instep with my team-mates as soon as possible

It was fantastic to see the boys get that seventh win on Saturday ? it was just a shame I couldn?t be part of it.

In the last game against Yeovil I was about to go for a shot and the defender made a great last ditch challenge and just got to the ball before me.

I ended up kicking the bottom of his foot and hurting my instep. I was hobbling around after that but I didn?t want to go off while we were behind.

I kept going, which worked out well because I set up Wayne Gray?s goal and once we were ahead again, the physio said enough was enough and I got brought off ? it?s quite funny really because the guy I kicked came off too.

It was badly bruised and quite swollen and I didn?t train for the rest of the week and had to sit it out for the trip to Gillingham.

Injured players tend not to go on away trips when there is an overnight stay but the ground was only an hour away from Southend and I wanted to be there for the game.

The team spirit was absolutely immense as it often is in the lower leagues and the guys went all out for the win.

I don?t think a lot of them knew that it was going to be a record while they were playing, they were too focused with the game ? although they all found out about it afterwards.

The first half wasn?t very pretty. It was a bit like a tennis game and we couldn?t really settle down.

But once we got the first goal, the whole complexion of the match changed. They played some nice stuff and showed a lot of spirit. It?s fantastic that we are up there in second with seven wins in a row ? and now we have to go on from here.

We need to get another couple of wins and just trying and create a bit of a gap between us and the teams behind us in third and fourth.

It?s that Chelsea mentality where you know that you have a cushion and while the opponents go into games knowing they need a win to catch up, you can be more relaxed going into matches.

It?s important to create that gap so if you do go on a bad run you know that you will still be up there in the mix with the top clubs fighting for a play-off spot or better a few weeks down the line ? it certainly helps to take the pressure off.

I did train yesterday but my foot was still a bit tender ? and it?s my right which means I?m knackered because we all know I don?t have a left.

Every time I kicked the ball I grimaced because it was sore but our game this week isn?t ?til Sunday so I think I might be ready by then.

If I am not 95 percent by Friday or Saturday I am not going to risk it, there is no point in coming back early when we have strikers in form already.

If I am good to go, of course I?d hope to be back in the side ? you?d always want that ? but this isn?t about me, I?m a team player and this is about Southend Football Club.

By the end of season, if we are still in or around the top of the table, fighting for a play-off spot then I will be happy whether I have played in every game, or 75 percent of the games.

We have some very good players at this club and as long as we are scoring goals ? whoever is getting them ? then I will be satisfied with my decision to stay on for one more year of football.
