Indoor first for young Flyers
The Flyers Track Club will be competing in their first indoor meet this weekend when they take part in the Tommy Burns Development Youth Track and Field Indoor Meet in Jersey City.
The team is made up of 14 athletes between the ages of 11 and 15, most of whom have never previously competed in an indoor arena.
Flyers coach Donna Watson said: “This is a great opportunity for these children as we are trying to expose them to the many facets of track and field. We are not looking for any personal bests as this will be their first experience and we have nothing to compare but we do look forward to them putting out their best.”

This year’s Butterfield and Vallis 5K road race will take place on Sunday, February 4 and those wanting to participate are asked to get their entries in before the end of the month.
Entry forms can be picked up at the SportSeller, Sports ‘R’ Us and at both Butterfield and Vallis locations, or forms can be downloaded at www.bv.bm.
The race starts from outside Butterfield and Vallis’ headquarters on Woodlands Road, with the 12 and under boys’ and girls’ categories beginning their 2.7 kilometre course at 9 a.m. — followed by the senior runners at 9.30.
Walkers will begin five minutes after the runners.
Entries close on Wednesday, January 31 at 4.45 p.m..
Late registration and number pick-up is on Saturday, February 3 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
There will be no late registration on the Sunday.

The first track and field meet of 2007 takes place this weekend and places for April’s Carifta Games in the Grand Turks will be up for grabs.
The Track and Field Onion Series, hosted by Swan’s Running Club, starts at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at the National Sports Centre and is open to all juniors and adults.
Track events will include the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500 metres while field events on offer will be high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and javelin.
