Injured pair on the mend

Bermuda's cricket selectors are confident of being able to pick from a full squad of players for this week's games against Canada and Zimbabwe.

All-rounder Lionel Cann has played virtually no part in the team's preparations at the Frank Worrell Cricket Centre since arriving in Trinidad last Thursday night, engaging in only light jogging a couple of times a day as he continues his recovery from a strained groin.

Opener Kwame Tucker, meanwhile, who was struck on the elbow by a bouncer from George O'Brien on Friday during a practice session, sat out Saturday's match and was continually applying ice to the heavy bruising.

But asked for an injury assessment yesterday, coach Gus Logie insisted the prognosis was good.

"Kwame should be OK by Monday and I don't have any doubts over his fitness for Wednesday," he said.

"He took quite a painful blow to the elbow and we decided he wasn't quite right for the practice game, but with a lot of ice, the bruising should clear up.

"As far as Lionel is concerned, his recovery is going well according to the physio but it is very important that he takes things easy because it is the sort of injury which can be aggravated if you rush back too soon.

"We'll assess his progress every day for the rest of the week and he'll have a full fitness test on Wednesday before the game against Canada to see whether he is ready to take his place in the side. We all know what an important player Lionel is to us and we are doing all that we can to get him right."
