Island pair face off in indoor showdown
Bermuda?s indoor-soccer stars David Bascome and John Barry Nusum will face off today when the latter?s Philadelphia KiXX host Bascome?s Baltimore Blast.
It?s expected to be a match of high drama with the KiXX ? who boast a 15-8 record in 23 games ? leading the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) of which the Blast are the two-time defending champions.
Bascome?s Blast are currently in fourth position among seven teams with an 11-11 record from their 22 games.
When the teams last clashed in January, KiXX romped to a 9-4 away success over the Blast but they had lost to the same opponents, 7-4, last Boxing Day in Baltimore.
Nusum?s outfit have been on a winning run in recent weeks, defeating St. Louis 7-3 at home on January 30 and overcoming visitors Cleveland Force 7-6 last Saturday in a double-overtime thriller. The 82 minutes and 13 seconds of action was the second-longest game in KiXX franchise history.
Last Wednesday, Philadelphia continued their impressive form away to Kansas City Comets whom they beat 7-6.
Rookie Nusum, who plays the specialist position of target forward, did not feature against Cleveland and Kansas but had a key role in the St. Louis triumph.
He scored the club?s sixth goal in the third period and then fed team-mate Drew Kopp who netted the seventh and final goal for the KiXX in the fourth quarter.
