James backs candidates
A combination of Reginald Pearman and Keith Wainwright in any order would be good for Bermudian cricket, according to outgoing Cricket Board of Control President El James.
As he bows out after three years at the helm, James is not saying which one he prefers for the top job. However, he firmly believes both men are talented and whatever the outcome at tonight's annual general meeting at Warwick Workmen's Club (7.30 p.m.) it will be for the betterment of the sport.
"I don't know anybody else who has entered the race for the President other than Reginald Pearman and Keith Wainwright," he said. "But the fact that we have two capable individuals to choose from is a clear indication that, whoever wins, the sport of cricket in the Island will be in good hands.
"I really do think that a combination of Pearman and Wainwright will be good in any order. They will be able to complement each other and work well together in any of the top positions.''
Unlike when he ran unopposed three years ago, James said the fact it was not a one horse race was good for the sport.
"I really believe that it's healthy for the sport to have more than one individual challenging for the top post," he said. "The good thing this year is that whoever becomes number one the loser I think will stick around and become number two and assist the Board.
"But I want to see good people appointed to other positions as well, both as executives and club representatives, because a good administration is only created with the input from a supporting cast. They all have to contribute to enable the Board to be a success.''
