Jay, Anna rule the roads . . .
For the second week in succession, road runners Jay Donawa and Anna Eatherley savoured the thrill of victory yesterday.
Fresh from winning the men's and women's titles respectively in last Sunday's Butterfield & Vallis 5K, the duo conquered the Flying Colours Round The Town Race in Hamilton over the same distance.
Donawa crossed the line first in 15 minutes, 39 seconds, ahead of Sheldon Thompson in 16.33 and Andrew Wadman in 16.56.
Eatherley was 16th overall and the first woman in 18.19 while Lynn Patchett was the second woman and 19th overall in 18.28.
In the junior segment of the race (age eight to 12), Trey Simons smashed the competition, winning in the 3K race in 11.34. Dorian Armstrong was second in 12.04 and Nahki Wells, third in 12.18. Nicole Yearwood was the first girl and 20th overall in 13.46.
This weekend sees the Ocean Spray 3K for juniors while the next senior event is the rescheduled Corporate Road Relay in Sunday, February 23. The event was originally scheduled last Octobe but called off after it clashed with the Bank of Bermuda Triathlon.
Meanwhile, racing forms for the junior Telford Electric Mile are now available at the Sportseller, Telford Depot (Somerset) and Telford Electric (Well Bottom in Southampton). The entry deadline is February 15. The races take place on February 22.
