Joshua tops in Opti regatta
Young Optimist sailor Joshua Greenslade completed his preparations for the South American Championships in Colombia by winning the RHADC Past Commodore?s Regatta over the weekend.
Saturday?s light and fluky winds meant that the Optimist fleet managed to complete only one race, with James Anfossi playing the shifty winds to win, with Greenslade second across the line and Blake Burgess third.
But Greenslade came back on Sunday to win three of the seven races sailed, with three second-place finishes and a third.
The breezes were much stronger, though still shifty, but skippers who chose the right side of the Great Sound course were regularly rewarded.
Anfossi came second overall in the 20-boat fleet, followed by Jason Saints, Haley Powell, and Martin Finnegan.
Eleven of the young sailors left Bermuda on Wednesday for Cartagena in Colombia, where the South American Championships begin this weekend.
In the intermediate Optimist fleet, Sam Stan sailed consistently, winning all but one race.
The Byte fleet was dominated by Opti grads, with Campbell Duffy?s three firsts and four seconds earning him overall victory. He was followed by Ryan Saraiva and Cameron Pimental in third.
Malcolm Smith outsailed Brett Wright to take top place in the Laser fleet, with Stevie Dickinson finishing third.
