Key West keep grip on top spot
Reigning champions Key West Rangers are still on top of the Commercial League after defeating Dandy Town Roots 2-0 on Saturday.
After 15 minutes Sergio Griffin headed home at the back post from a Quinton Butterfield cross while in the 80th minute Steven (Kamachy) Mendes scored a dipping shot from 25 yards out.
However, there has still been no decision on whether Key West will be allowed to replay their game against Tuff Dogs which was abandoned a week earlier after three players were sent off and the match descended into chaos.
Former champs MR Onions beat Lobster Pot 3-1 in a hard-fought game at White Hill. Pot started strongly but it was Onions who took the lead after 20 minutes when Gordon Paterson struck a powerful 15 yarder.
Onions doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty for a push on Kian Wookey.
Player-coach Phil Anderson scored from the spot and also netted Onions? third goal with an excellent finish.
Lobster Pot pulled one back after 75 minutes with a Martin Godley penalty after Steve Woodward was adjudged to have fouled Colin James.
BAA Wanderers clawed their way back to a 2-2 draw with Tuff Dogs after going 2-0 down.
A Jeff Franklyn penalty put Dogs ahead just before half-time while Franklyn got his second ten minutes after the break after some nice build-up play from the Dogs midfield.
BAA then had the Dogs? defence under siege. Giuseppe Coco got one back with ten minutes to go after the keeper fumbled a Martin Jones shot. Then Chris Worsick scored a wonder goal from 30 yards in the 88th minute to give BAA a well-deserved share of the points.
Tuff Dogs? sub Chris Sousa was sent off in the 82nd minute for kicking BAA?s Gary Munn off the ball.
Robin Hood crashed to their third consecutive 2-0 defeat, this time at the hands of PHC Raiders.
Al Thomas slotted home a Sheridan (Baldy) Ming cross in the first half while former coach Mark Wade rifled home in the second period. The woodwork and some excellent saves from Cal Waldron kept Hood at bay in the closing stages.
Island XI finally got their first point since being promoted to the ?A? division with a 0-0 draw against North Village Rams.
In the ?B? Division, Somerset Extros dropped their first points with a 2-2 draw with Valley. Oscar Riley and Kevin Isaac were on target for Valley while Mike Corday and David Burchall netted for the Trojan old boys.
Vasco beat Boulevard 3-1. Despite controlling the midfield in the first half, Boulevard lacked finishing and resorted to long range efforts. Vasco took their chances better and went ahead when Joe Cunha reacted faster than the goalkeeper to a cross from the left.
Boulevard equalised about 10 minutes later via a well-taken Sandy Boyles? effort. The Vasco keeper threw the ball out to one of his players but it was well read by Boyles who saw the keeper off his line and fired home.
Joe Barrosso gave Vasco a 2-1 lead when he converted a penalty after being tripped up by the keeper. In the second half, Vasco dictated play but managed only one more goal when defender Darren Booth ran from his own half and caught the defence flat-footed.
St. George?s routed Devonshire All-Stars 5-1. The East Enders led 2-0 with goals from Franklyn Greaves and Eugene Crockwell. The second half saw two finely-taken headers from Sinclair Smith and a second from Greaves round off a fine victory over Devonshire who scored a consolation goal through Vaughan Davis but missed a late penalty.
Somerset Bridge Peskies beat Pest Control 4-1 while Devonshire Lions picked up a walkover win over Hamilton Parish who have yet to kick a ball all season.
In the ?C? Division, Prison Officers walloped a short-handed Dandy Town Roots C team 10-1. Caldon Grimes grabbed four, while Donald Norford and Dwight Richards got two each. Ryan Belboda and Marvin Trott also netted with Wilbur Brangman getting Roots? solitary effort.
MR Onions Real Men went to two-up against Dockyard Falcons through a Nick Wills strike and a Dave Outrim penalty but had to share the points when Falcons clawed their way back into the game.
